Living life one day at a time is a cornerstone practice for those in recovery from addiction - a mental, physical and spiritual disease that affects millions of people worldwide.  Many Jewish people in recovery appreciate opportunities to bridge their spiritual practices. In 2016, the Jewish Collaborative piloted OC's first Serenity Shabbat and in 2017 we launched "Stepping out of Shabbes," a monthly Saturday afternoon gathering that met in people's homes, featuring Step study and Torah study along with a Shabbat nosh. It was a great beginning.

When Collaborative programs moved to a virtual platform in 2020, we saw an opportunity to invite Jewish leaders in recovery to inspire us weekly.
Twelve Steps and Torah began in April of 2021 and, for the past year, has been led by Rabbi Ilan Glazer - author, life-coach and founder of Our Jewish Recovery, a Facebook group for Jewish people around the world looking to fuse their practice of recovery with their Judaism.  More than 30 men and women from throughout North America gather weekly to study the parashah of the week and find spiritual companionship.  New participants find their way to our Zoom room every Shabbat afternoon.

We also piloted Twelve Steps and Teshuvah, a series of High Holiday services and programs designed for the recovery community and Stepping Into Liberation, a pre-Passover Recovery Retreat.  We look forward to hosting these two seasonal programs again in 5782.
