The word sustainability takes on new meaning during times of uncertainty. Today it is often associated with topics related to environmental degradation. On Earth Day this past Tuesday (April 22), we were reminded that Jewish tradition charges us to be stewards of the earth’s finite and precious natural resources. Read Rabbi Tilchin’s special message about Earth Day HERE.
In our current reality, many people are gaining an enhanced appreciation for the elements that must come together for each of us, our families and our communities to feel sustained and supported.
The Jewish Collaborative of Orange County embraces our mission to be a force for communal good through acts oftikkun olam, showing care to our most vulnerable neighbors. City Net has been a key collaborative partner in our efforts to help those experiencing homelessness. Until COVID-19, we had the opportunity to prepare and serve a monthly dinner to the 300 residents of the Courtyard Transitional Shelter in Santa Ana.
In lieu of that, we will deliver 1000 food kits that City Net workers will distribute to shelters, temporary hotels and those still living out-of-doors. This is the first of several partnership projects JCoOC is coordinating on City Net’s behalf.
Over the course of the summer, we will also be buying much needed items listed below in quantities of 1000+
Men’s boxers
Women’s briefs
Canvas shoes
Face masks
Boxed beverages
Sanitizing wipes
Additional meal kits.
We are here for you and welcome your partnership in being there for others.
If you or someone you know has a need that we may be able to help support, either directly or through a referral, please let us know by emailing us at joy@jewishcollaborativeoc.org.
Consider joining our new “Tzedak-a-the-Month” Club. Recurring donations will be used to purchase bulk items (listed above) in efforts to sustain as many people as we can going forward.
There is a place for everyone under our tent, even if, for the time being, our tent is largely virtual.
Shabbat Shalom and Hodesh Tov,
Rabbi Marcia and the Collaborative Team
