I invite you to watch, at your leisure, the first two Virtual Roundtable Discussions produced by the Orange County Interfaith Network. This year’s theme is “Sharing our Stories: From Understanding to Action.” These open-hearted, sobering conversations are designed to connect us to members of our community immersed in important issues of the day:
“Stories of Immigration,” features the personal stories of six OC residents that came to the United States from around the globe living daily with challenges distinctly faced by immigrants in our community.
“Hate Crimes and White Supremacy” features ADL Executive Director, Rabbi Peter Levi and three other professionals that navigate the complexities of these painful realities on a daily basis.
The third roundtable discussion,"Knowing our Neighbors: (Inter)Faith in Times of Crisis” will debut to the public this coming Thursday, June 25 at noon on the OCIN Facebook page. I am honored to be on this panel that was thoughtfully moderated by Chaplain Educator Munir Shaikh from Banyan Claremont Graduate School.
As the world continues to contract and our deep appreciation for all that unites us grows with each passing day, I acknowledge that today I observed Juneteenth for the first time. This annual memorial, so important to a distinct segment of Americans for 155 years, had never before entered my personal frame of reference. Today Scott and I were among the more than 3000 people attending a Juneteenth Kabbalat Shabbat observance hosted by B’chol Lashon and partner organizations. That was cool! I encourage you to watch the recordingwhen you have time. It will enrich your Shabbat in unexpected ways.
Finally, last Friday, Shir Hama’alot’s Cantor Rabbi Bryan Zive debuted a recording of Debbie Friedman’s Mi Shebeirach performed by more than 10 local clergy and musicians. I hope you enjoy it!
