It has been an honor to serve on the Faith Leader's Council of United to End Homelessness since the group first convened in 2018. We hope you have been following JCoOC's daily Facebook posts created by Orange County United Way to help raise awareness, debunk myths and inspire engagement around the growing challenges related to shelter and food insecurity in our country. Suffice it to say that COVID-19 has only invigorated an already daunting reality.
The Jewish Collaborative is offering three opportunities between now and December 20th to learn more about homelessness, become engaged with policies and protocol and share compassion through action. Your participation is greatly needed and will be a gift that keeps on giving.
November 18 - December 20: Backpacks of Love This dedicated mitzvah campaign will provide 800 men and women living on the streets and in shelters with much needed items to sustain them through the winter months. CLICK HEREto learn how to you can support and become involved with this project.
December 3 (6pm to 8pm on Zoom): Homelessness 101 Workshop Participants will become familiar with key approaches, philosophies and terminologies associated with homelessness. We will focus on the current systems in our community, including the most up-to-date statistics and best practices for solving homelessness in Orange County in the long term. CLICK HERE to register.
December 8 (6pm to 7:30pm on Zoom): Housing Champion Advocacy 101 Workshop Participants will learn how to be effective voices for supportive and affordable housing in our local communities. The presentation includes direction on grass-roots advocacy, strategies for working with elected officials and productive communication tools. CLICK HERE to register.
