Exodus 12:18-19 spells out that "In the first month [now called Nisan] from the fourteenth day of the month [1st day Pesah] at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month [Shevi'i shel Pesah] at evening. No leaven shall be found in your house for seven days." In an effort to imbue the 7th day of Passover with added meaning (especially in the diaspora when we celebrate eight days and include Yizkor on the 8th day), we emphasize the special Torah reading during Shaharit from Exodus 13:17 - 17:16) that includesShirat Hayam - the Song of the Sea. It is considered the ultimate expression of gratitude for our liberation and is so important that it is a focal point in our daily morning liturgy.
This week we will also mark Yom Hashoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day on April 7th and 8th. Vist the Jewish Federation of OC 's website to access a list of programs offered throughout the county. Two special events you may wish to attend on the evening of April 8 are:
