Last week the Jewish Collaborative launched our winter tzedakah campaign, Backpacks of Love and Care, and we look forward to your participation.
In 2020 we formed a partnership with City Net to initiate a project that ultimately engaged several houses of worship. Together we were able to provide 1000 good-quality backpacks filled with winter clothing and personal care items for people living out-of-doors and in shelters throughout Orange, Riverside and parts of Los Angeles Counties.
The need remains. This year we are inviting people to adopt backpacks filled with warm clothing and personal care items and/or much needed first aid supplies which City Net workers will provide to their clients who sustain injuries that can heal easily if treated early. Our goal is to sponsor 100 "Backpacks of Love and Care."
In this week's parashah, God describes our patriarch Abraham in this way: "Abraham is to become a great and populous nation and all the nations of the earth are to bless themselves by him. For I have singled him out, that he may instruct his children and his posterity to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is just and right." (Genesis 18: 18-19)
The blessing of showing loving kindness to others is our inheritance.
