As most of us begin to contemplate our ample blessings during this Thanksgiving season, National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Weekbegins tomorrow, November 13, and runs through the 21st of the month. There are programs, events and educational opportunities happening throughout America. To learn about goings on and volunteer opportunities in your area, click here.
Orange County United Way’s United to End Homelessness (U2EH) team is offering important educational events and daily myth-busting information designed to educate and engage OC residents about our current and ongoing housing shortage for seniors, families, veterans, and those struggling with chronic mental and physical illnesses.
We encourage you to attend the upcoming “State of Homelessness Address” on November 15 at noon - RSVP here. To help your community learn how to better engage with this county-wide challenge that impacts us all, click here. Don’t miss the opportunity to enroll in these excellent classes and workshops offered by United Way staff.
The biggest challenge facing homelessness service providers like United Way, Family Promise, Families Forward and so many other agencies doing their best to help find permanent homes for currently unsheltered is the lack of available inventory. Federal and statewide funding for rent, security deposits and other costs is available and plentiful. If you are a property owner or are closely connected to people that have rental units and/or multiple homes to rent, please consider connecting them with U2EH Executive Director, Becks Hayhoe -BecksH@UnitedWayOC.org, to learn how this blessing can become an ongoing blessing to others. Thank you in advance for your help.
BACKPACKS OF LOVE AND CARE CAMPAIGN: The Jewish Collaborative of Orange County is trying to do our part toward mitigating the challenges of people living out-of-doors and in temporary shelters. Join our partnership with City Net to provide warm clothing to our neighbors currently experiencing homelessness and needed first aid supplies for use by City Net's field workers.
We are also helping to prepare 4000 snack kits that will be distributed during the upcoming “Point in Time Count” that is scheduled to take place in January of 2022 - details forthcoming. You can help us reach our $9000 fundraising goal to provide backpacks with winter clothing, first-aid supplies for the City Net vans, and 2000 food kits.
Click hereto adopt one or more backpacks or make a donation. Thank you for your generosity.
