The fast day of Tisha B’av (the 9th day of the Hebrew month, Av) was instituted thousands of years ago to commemorate the destruction of Jerusalem's two cultic Temples.  Over time, its observance came to be associated with additional major tragedies throughout Jewish history.  Today, we commemorate our collective losses - both historic and modern - and reflect on how tragedy can birth transformation.
Jewish tradition views the universe as God’s Temple. The Temple in Jerusalem was seen as a microcosm of the sacred act of creation and Earth itself. Just as our holy temples were destroyed by the Babylonians and later the Romans, today our Earth is under attack by climate change.
This Tisha B’av, we can take action to accelerate the transformation that is already underway by advocating for policies to clean up the pollution caused by fossil fuels, build renewable energy capacity, and further equity by investing in communities that have suffered the most from the energy systems of the past.
THANK YOU!
We are continuing to build a local Dayenu Circle and would love to have you join our efforts. Learn more and register here.Â
Chutzpah - Dayenu’s signature, non-partisan effort to mobilize climate-concerned voters in key states - is going into full swing. The goal is to elect climate champions at the local, state and federal levels who have the chutzpah to deliver urgent action on climate at the scale that science and justice demand. Dayenu provides a full menu of actions that voters in every state can take in the months leading up to the 2024 election.
WHY JOIN A DAYENU CIRCLE?
Dayenu Circles—small groups of people working on climate action—are a way for you to make powerful, positive change with a Jewish voice. Together with just a few friends, fellow community members, or neighbors you can join or create a Dayenu Circle that can be your homebase for climate action.
A community Dayenu Circle can provide a center of gravity, enabling us to align Jewish values with the change we seek to make in the world. We can do this work together not only to take effective action to confront the climate crisis, but to sustain ourselves and our spirits as we act. Rooted in community and drawing on Jewish wisdom and experience supports us as we move from fear and anxiety to courageous action. Learn about Dayenu's successful "Keep the Law” campaign

This question in 2025 has deep personal and political consequences with roots in ancient Jewish debates. Rabbi Daniel will trace how ideas of Jewish identity have shifted across time - from biblical categories to the modern crises of belonging. We will explore why there has never been one clear answer to the question of Jewish identity and why the debate itself may be essential to Jewish continuity.
