Dear Friends,
In partnership with Jewish Long Beach, the Jewish Collaborative of OC, Temple Beth Shalom in Long Beach and Temple Ner Tamid in Downy are hosting two festive programs during Hanukkahfeaturing Argentinian Hazzan Jonathan Kohan.
First, please join us on Thursday night, December 26th (the 2nd night of Hanukkah) for A TREE OF LIGHT- a community candle lighting ceremony followed by a concert featuring Cantor Kohan, Cantor Judy Sofer, Rabbi Menachem Mirsky and an array of other performers. A celebration with food and drink will follow.
Friday and Saturday, December 27th and 28th is Sábado Argentino - a dynamic Shabbaton led by two beloved Argentinian Jewish clergy, Rabbi Dany Mehlman and Hazzan Jonathan Kohan.
Cantor Kohan will share his musical expertise throughout Friday night and Saturday morning services punctuated by three Shabbat meals and great learning. The Shabbat will close with Havdalah and a community candlelighting for the 4th night of Hanukkah.
Register for the Shabbaton by calling Temple Ner Tamid's office at (562) 861-9276 or write to David Saltzman at info@templenertamidofdowney.org with your contact information by December 23rd.
Please share the flyers below with your friends and family. This will be a memorable closing Shabbat for 2024!

This question in 2025 has deep personal and political consequences with roots in ancient Jewish debates. Rabbi Daniel will trace how ideas of Jewish identity have shifted across time - from biblical categories to the modern crises of belonging. We will explore why there has never been one clear answer to the question of Jewish identity and why the debate itself may be essential to Jewish continuity.
