The inevitability of change is one of the few things we can be sure of in life. As I reflect on the 20 years since my husband and I first visited Orange County, I appreciate the long view I now have of how people and institutions I know well have evolved over two decades, often in unpredictable ways. Stunning, really.
People (and organizations) come and go, and we must be grateful for whatever time we have in their presence. In the Jewish professional world, movement in the name of service to the Jewish people is par for the course. This week Orange County bade farewell to D’vorah and Rabbi Shmuel Miller and their two youngest children as they make their way to St. Louis for the next stage of their professional journey in service to the Holy One.
For the last two years, D’vorah has shepherded the launch and growth of JCoOC’s IKARON education program for youth. The broad range of families that have been touched by her brand of Jewish joy and inspiration are grateful for her leadership. The miracle of virtual engagement will enable D’vorah to continue teaching our online classes and direct the overall IKARON program from her new home. This I could not have imagined even two years ago. Change!
D’vorah’s new book, Up to God: Down-to-earth Thoughts on Elevated Living, (Mosaica Press) is a beautiful reflection of her holy and unique scholarly essence. This tender, accessible window into her relationship with Torah will be a welcome addition to every Jewish home.
The Jewish Collaborative of OC looks forward to hosting a regular book study with D’vorah beginning in November of 2021, and we hope that you will join us whenever you can to share sparks of Torah in virtual community.
Please join us this coming Monday, August 9 (Rosh Hodesh Elul) at 9:30am PDT when D’vorah offers a personal introduction to “Up to God” during our weekly Advanced Learning Institute Monday morning session. An hour with D’vorah exploring some of her favorite book passages will be a perfect way to kick start these 30 days of self-reflection and relationship healing leading up to Rosh Hashanah. All are welcome to join us on Zoom or Facebook.
Our dynamic exploration of the Book of Daniel with Rabbi David Lazar will resume on August 16. Click here to access source sheets and recordings of previous classes.
